[All work](https://kathiuska.com/work/) # Snapchat Independence Day, country by country Creative direction, illustration and cel animation2019–2020 ![Still: Mass Snap for Mexico’s Independence Day: two riders on a horse with the Mexican flag](/media/responsive/f1a55cac2651a8a7-606.webp) For Snapchat’s celebrations in Latin America, including Independence Day, I led creative direction, illustration and cel animation. The Mass Snaps needed to read within five seconds on a phone. I drew on each country’s places, dress, lettering and visual culture to make the loops recognisable, with stickers and filters that people could use on their own photos during the festivities. Dress, colour and flags distinguish the versions; the accompanying filter and hand-lettered stickers were available throughout each day of celebration. ![Viva Guatemala lettering over a photograph of a market stall filled with colourful produce](/media/responsive/90f3a0ba45f96ded-960.webp) ![Four Mexican celebration stickers placed over a photograph of a building and tree-covered hills](/media/responsive/bf5b4f477c00952a-960.webp) ![Viva México lettering above a photograph of an ornate white building with a domed roof](/media/responsive/14d015cab57f3d5b-960.webp) ![Orange and blue Felices Fiestas Patrias lettering surrounded by flowers and leaves](/media/responsive/6fddc84ec99b4360-400.webp) ![Feliz Día de la Independencia lettering in burgundy and blue, surrounded by delicate leaves and flourishes](/media/responsive/f0f6ab20b28f97f1-400.webp) ![Blue Viva Guatemala lettering framed by pink flowers and green leaves](/media/responsive/c5b2b806a317c11c-400.webp) ![Red and blue Viva Costa Rica lettering with small flowers and leaves](/media/responsive/6401634989886092-400.webp) ![Blue Viva El Salvador lettering with flowers, leafy branches and a Salvadoran flag](/media/responsive/2ab72a2c293ed119-400.webp) ![Blue and white Viva Nicaragua lettering beside a heart filled with the colours of the Nicaraguan flag](/media/responsive/56436d076f9c1758-400.webp) ![Blue Viva Honduras lettering between two Honduran flags, with small decorative flourishes](/media/responsive/55a89b900f35ed29-400.webp) ![Green and red Feliz Día de la Independencia lettering with orange flowers](/media/responsive/183122d9acab000e-400.webp) ![Green and red Felices Fiestas Patrias lettering with two upright orange flowers](/media/responsive/db9f195cde389977-400.webp) ![Green and red Orgullosamente de México lettering with a flowering branch](/media/responsive/da292c3ce34a228a-400.webp) ![Amo a México lettering in green, white and red, with a yellow sombrero over the final letters](/media/responsive/b77931dea5a6bc14-400.webp) ##
