Los animales del cielo
An illustrated book about the constellations
For Germán Puerta Restrepo’s introduction to the constellations, I illustrated the animals and figures people have found in the night sky. Published by Editorial Planeta in Colombia in 2021, the book moves from the zodiac to constellations used for orientation. I built each figure around its stars, drawn in gold against deep blues.

Stars and figures
The stars remain visible within each animal, connecting its imagined form to the pattern in the sky.
The zodiac
The constellations along the strip of sky the Sun, the Moon and the planets travel through.
Beyond the zodiac
Bears, a giraffe, a chameleon and a sea serpent: the constellations used to find north and south, and the less familiar ones between them.

Each constellation sits on a dark page beside the text, with a star chart on the endpapers.
